This ride was originally scheduled for Oct. 3rd, but only two members were able to make it. So we re-scheduled the ride for Oct 10th.
We had five members, one gentleman and four ladies! Ralph said he was going to have to work in order to get more men on the Valley Chapter rides! As far as the scoots go, we had a Honda Helix 250, a SYM RV250, a Kymco People 250, a brand new Piaggio BV 500 Tourer for Kathy, and a Honda Silverwing.
We started our ride from the Dairy Queen parking lot at 25th St. SE and Mission St. in Salem. We all agreed that this is a good starting point for the Salem area rides, as it is a central location in Salem, easy access to the freeway, a gas station on the opposite corner, a DQ for coffee and breakfast/lunch to go, and a Kmart for quick shopping (extra clothing!). We will be working on a central meet up spot for our Albany and Eugene area rides.
We took the country roads from Salem to Gates, going through Aumsville, Stayton, Lyons, and Mill City. We stopped at the park in Mill City for our picnic lunch, and had a picnic table right next to the river. We had good food, and great conversation. We had a very nice time.
After lunch, we headed for Gates, and then took HWY 22 back to Mill City, and took slightly different roads back to Stayton. Then we went back to Salem through Turner. A couple of members took off for home in South Salem, and Teri and I returned to our starting point. The ride was approximately 88 miles, and it took about three and a-half hours.
I think the ride was a great success. The weather was beautiful, but a little cool. Teri said she had a blast, and I think we all did. :)
