The
Four-Peaks Ride was a great fall ride! Under a thin layer of fog seventeen scooters, ranging in from 50 cc to 500 cc rolled out of Holman’s for our 60 mile ride. About 40 minutes into our ride the fog burned off just in time to enjoy the view from the summit of Skyline Blvd providing fantastic views of the fall color in the valleys west of downtown Portland. As we crossed the St. John’s Bridge we moved into the middle segment of our ride.
As we headed along Marine drive were treated to Bald Eagle and Red Tail Hawk sightings as dozens of sailboats tacked under bright sunlight on the Columbia river. After quick runs up Rocky Butte and Mt. Tabor we were off to Council Crest, the final peak on our ride.
We arrived at Council Crest at about 3:30 PM and were treated to views of four snow capped mountains, Rainier, Addams, St. Helens and Hood. Each of them were bathed in full sunlight and there coating of snow made them stand out from the blue skies.
If you missed this ride you are encouraged to follow our route on any sunny fall day. The ride map is posted on the events page and here is a
GPX file that will allow you up load the map to your GPS. (Right click and use "save target as" to download.)
Hope to see you all at our annual meeting on November 11, 2009. Check out the events page for details.
