Amerivespa Report
Karen and I rode down to the Bay Area on Monday June 28 to attend Amerivespa. In my case this was on the heels of doing over 600 Miles on the Painted Hills ride.
On day one we rode down to Coos Bay. We met up with the group from Vespa Club Seattle who was staying there. They had a bunch of vintage riders and were going slow, so we headed out by ourselves early the next day for our longest day...to Fort Bragg. The ride was some 360 miles much of it through the redwoods and out to the coast. Day three had us continuing down over the Golden Gate to my mother's house in Santa Cruz. Day three was also my birthday and I took my nieces out to the Beach Boardwalk amusement park until late at night.
The next day was the opening day for Amerivespa. We joined the "advanced" ride over Mount Hamilton. This started out as a challenging twisty route up to Lick Observatory, but turned into a road race to Livermore. It was a hoot, but not for the faint of heart.
Day two featured a ride to San Juan Batista which is one of the original Spanish missions. I'd never been there before and found it very interesting as well as a great ride. There were over 200 scoots on this ride.
Day three was mostly Gymkana...we stayed away most of the day but joined the group for dinner.
Day four was a ride from San Jose to Santa Cruz and a BBQ by the beach.
The next day (last Monday - 8 days after we left) we trailered back to PDX in one day.
We made a ton of new friends, saw some beautiful scoots, and had a generally great week. We met three people from Portland; one of them was Brantford of Corrazzo.
I put over 1,800 miles on my scoot in 10 days.
Really wish some of you could have made it too.
