I got my motorcycle liscense thru team oregon. On their driving test you are asked to perform a staggered cone weave. You control the motorcycle using the clutch.
My question is what is the best way to control a scooter thru a staggered cone weave. I am finding it more difficult than when I did it with a motorcycle. I was thinking that using the back break with constant throttle might be the best way.
That is exactly what I did. I used constant throttle and the back brake at the same time.
The 'Motorman' (I think that's what he calls himself on the DVD that we have) calls it the 'friction zone'. You can use it to do the cone weave, and you can use it in slow moving traffic. You can also use it on 10-15 mph corners, and it gives you great control. And using the throttle gives you control, while using the brake keeps the speed very low.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
You probably already know this, but in addition to "feathering" the rear brake while you use the throttle you must also always avoid using the front brake when you're going slow unless you're going straight ahead. Failure to do so will result in an abrupt spill over toward the side your front wheel was turned. I do mean abrupt (at least on my Burgman 650)! I almost dropped it the first time I rode it. Caught it just in time but man, that thing is heavy and goes down fast!
