I found this site while lurking in another forum. It is an aid organization started after the Hurricane Katrina disaster to aid scooterist who were affected by the hurricane. According to their website, their purpose was to coordinate relief donations for scooterists from New Orleans and the rest of the Gulf Coast.

Since September of 2005 they have raised thousands of dollars with the help of the national scooter community, clubs, individuals and shops. They have distributed these funds in an equitable fashion to all Katrina survivors who have applied for funds.

Scooter-Relief has also responded to the needs of other scooterists--victims of accidents and some facing serious illness. They continue to raise money for their general fund so they can make grants or donations quickly after receiving word that a scooterist needs aid. They also raise funds for specific individuals who are in need because of accidents, etc.

One fund is for a local Portlander.

I cannot personally vouch for them, but from what I have read, they seem to be a genuine organization that collects money to help fellow scooterists in need. You can go on their website to either donate, or apply for funds if you are a scooterist and are in need as a result of an accident.

They do have the following caveat on their site:

Scooter-Relief.org is an all volunteer organization. While we are a non-profit, we are not yet recognized with 501C3 status by the IRS. Donations are NOT tax deductible.

I plan on making a donation and hope that I never need to use their services, but I was glad to see that the scooterist community in the USA is caring and will come and support our fellow riders when they are in need.
