Does anyone know if you can take the beginners Team Oregon training on a scooter? I'm signed up for a class in Oct., and I don't want to use one of their cycles.
Has anyone been through the training on a scoot? Please let me know. I'm having anxiety about training on a motorcycle, since I've already been riding my scoot! I'm afraid it would be too confusing!
I took the IRT coarse at Team Oregon early this month...the day before the Ferry Circle Ride... on my Burgman 400. There were other scooters there also. It will be great, they do a good job there.
Well,it;s official. I got an email from one of the instructors at Team Oregon and this is what he said:
Our policy does allow students to ride their own motorcycle/scooter (250cc or below) in BRT courses. There are a couple of requirements for any student owned vehicle in training that must be met.
You need to get it to the site legally
You must show proof of current insurance
It must pass a safety inspection

You can, providing your scooter is bigger than 50cc. Biggest issue will be getting your scooter to the class. They are real fussy about keeping within the Oregon motorcycle learner's permit regulations and will ask you how you got your scooter to class. You better have a licensed buddy with you or show them the pickup you hauled the cold scooter in!
I wished I had done my class with my scooter, learning the motorcycle controls and the techniques were overwhelming and I didn't pass my riding test ( and rightly so!) I'm taking the re-test on my scoot!
My scooter is 250cc, so I've got that covered. My husband will be following me in on his Harley, so I've got that covered. I'll make sure he sticks around so that they know I was riding with him.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with concerns about riding a scoot, and then training on a motorcycle. I thought it would be really confusing. Thank you for letting me know!
Yes you can! Ho you get it there is another issue. (It may be something you may not want to discuss with them). But I did the whole thing with my GTS250 and did very well.

I took the beginner course on one of their motorcycles, it's not really that confusing. (I bought my scooter about three days later.) But since you can take the course on your scooter anyway, I suppose none of this matters.
The course is great, and will give you good experience in the saddle, and a well-earned boost of confidence. Have fun. K
